Versatile Brown Bread

Picture of the bread made using a bread machine

This is a delicious and simple bread recipe. It can be made both using a bread machine or manually. With the machine is a easier way to prepare, but making by hand the bread gets better.

Serves: 1 bread (about 900g) Difficulty: medium Time: about 4 hours

Lactose-free and vegan.

1 cup water 2 tbsp oil (I use sunflower oil) 4 tbsp cane syrup 1 cup wheat flour 2 cups whole wheat flour 1/3 cup of seeds like sunflower, flaxseed... 2 tsp dry biological yeast 1 tsp sea salt

Directions (Bread Machine)

  1. Add all ingredients in the recipe order using the cup and spoons of the bread machine - the water should be at room temperature;

  2. Set the machine to "brown bread" and "900g size" and turn it on;

  3. When the bread have finished to bake, remove it from the machine and from the form.

DIrections (By Hand)

  1. Add the ingredients to a bowl in the following order: flour, seeds, yeast and salt;

  2. Mix well the dry ingredients while heating the water to a temperature you can keep your finger submerged (neither too hot nor too cold);

  3. Add the oil, the cane syrup and the warm water;

  4. Mix well with your hands and knead the dough for a moment;

  5. Make a ball with the dough and let it sit inside the bowl with a lid to grow until it doble the size (approximately 1 hour);

  6. Mold the bread and place it in a baking sheet covered with a cloth and let stand until the dough double the size (approximately 1 hour);

  7. Bake in a oven preheated at 220 ° C until the bread gets roasted (approximately 35 minutes);

  8. Cool it in the pan with a cloth over the top.

Hand made version

I suggest you not replace any ingredient, especially the cane syrup.
